August 25 @ 7:30 pm - 9:30 pmFree
Street Requiem is a 50-minute cantata written in 2014 by Andy Payne, Kathleen McGuire and Jonathon Walsh to evoke compassion and empathy for those who live and have died on our streets. The August 25 performance will be a benefit for the Berkeley Women’s Daytime Drop-in Center to support its programs for homeless women and their children.
Derek Tam will conduct a chamber orchestra and 100-voice chorus of singers from the Berkeley Community Chorus and other choruses in the Bay Area. Tenor Brian Thorsett and mezzo soprano Molly Mahoney will be the soloists.
Street Requiem has been performed in San Francisco and San Mateo, but this will be its East Bay premiere. The concert is sponsored by Berkeley Community Chorus and Orchestra (BCCO), the Berkeley Women’s Community Chorus, and First Congregational Church Berkeley.
Admission is free. Donations will be collected for the Women’s Day-time Drop-in Center.
