BCCO has a special relationship with Maestro Joe Liebling. Over many years we’ve had the privilege to work with this consummate professional and he’s been very generous with his time and talents. So when it came down to thanking him for his help during the 2010-11 season, we knew we’d need something special.
A Toast to Joe Liebling
from the Berkeley Community Chorus and Orchestra
(To the tune of Officer Krupke, West Side Story)
Dear fellow chorus singers, it’s sure been quite a year
But when we really need him, our Joe’s always been here
His energy’s infectious, it bounces off the wall
When he’s up there, he looks ten feet tall!
He’s our Joseph Liebling, the one from New Yawk
He was a piano prodigy before he could tawk!
He’s equally fluent in classics or swing
He makes us sound great when we sing!
When we sing, when we sing
Our whole sound takes wing
When we look right at him when we sing!
His wit is legendary, the funniest of men
And when our pitches vary, he pulls them up again
He skips up to the podium, he leads us with such zest
That’s how Joe gets us to do our best!
Yes! We love Joe Liebling, he’s one of a kind
He’s got a heart and spirit that are quite rare to find
It’s time fellow singers, to thank our maestro
‘Cuz, plain and simple, we love Joe!
We love Joe, we love Joe
He’s a mensch and so
Here’s a toast to celebrate our Joe!
From Julliard to Oakland
To non-auditioned folk —
Well, we can tell you firsthand
‘Twould sink a lesser bloke!
Joe’s helped us make good music
And now the concert’s done —
Brahms was great and we’ve had loads of fun!
Here’s to Joseph Liebling
With love from the choir
You worked so hard to show us we could reach even higher
We’ll always remember, we want you to know
Thanks, Joseph Liebling —
