Working on BCCO’s Archives Committee truly opened me up to appreciate what singing with BCCO means. For over a year, the committee (Mary Borders, Monica Clark, JoannaDavenport (Chair),Helene Lecar, Betty Pigford (Past Chair), Patti Powers-Risius, Aline Soules, Kristin Vorhies, Dorothy Wechsler, and myself) reviewed the photographic and written archival materials from the first “incarnation” of BCCO, when four people showed up for Eugene Jones’s adult education class, to today’s chorus singing in Hertz Hall.
Patti, Joanna, Helene and I would end up doing the final arrangement of the materials in the cases. The well-deserved halo around Patti’s head is not a coincidence. I thank her for her dedication and generous offering of her living room floor and table, which she covered with lay-outs of the materials. Kristin, too, though missing from the photo, deserves a halo, as does Joanna, for carrying us through as Committee Chair, and Mary, for her wonderful stories and material from the Eugene Jones era.
Perhaps most importantly for me, as an alto, I now look across the room to the soprano and tenor sections and see friends.
