On Tuesday, October 27, the City of Berkeley honored BCCO with a proclamation honoring its history and impact on the community. In response to the ceremonial reading of the proclamation, all voices in the room joined in Finlandia, a piece that recalls the spirit of Berkeley in the 60s and of Eugene Jones’s vision of a chorus that broke expectations that classical music could be performed and experienced only by an elite — that music should be available to everyone. Packed into the council chambers, we were tied to the “B” in BCCO, to our origins as the Berkeley Community chorus & Orchestra. What are your thoughts and feelings about the B in BCCO?
